PROJECTS

P3 design exploration + solution»

INTRODUCTION

Project 3 and its development comprise weeks three through seven of the course. The students are required to propose a design problem and develop a solution for the problem. The proposal outline includes an intended process of exploration and work plan. The problem must be framed around at least one sustainable indicator and pertain to urban infrastructure. The proposal incorporates a statement of specific objectives and metrics that will be use to assess the project outcomes. Students have the option of working in pairs with the understanding that expectations rise exponentially.

Students are encouraged to consider the following questions:

  • What is the opportunity for your design intervention to further the issues of sustainability in the urban fabric and infrastructure?
  • How might your design intervention and exploration further the understanding of sustainability?
  • How might your design intervention and exploration further the understanding of the foreclosure crisis? or urban renewal?
  • What does it mean for a city to be sustainable?
  • Which metrics apply directly or indirectly to your project?
  • What scale is your design interventions site—parcel, block, 4 block, neighborhood or city?
