Sustainable Housing Research in Korea

The Center for Sustainable Housing in South Korea and the Center for Sustainable Building Research entered into an agreement of cooperation to establish collaboration in areas of interest and benefit to both institutions. The purposes of the agreement are (1) to promote interest in the fields of sustainable housing and building technologies and (2) to complement each research area, educational programs, and service to the industry on a global scale. To achieve these goals, the two Centers will engage in the following activities.

  • Mutually exchange members between two institutions.
  • Exchange publications.
  • Cooperate research on sustainable housing and technology issues.
  • Disseminate current research outcomes and achievements.
  • Cooperate in information collection and exchange.
  • Promote joint lectures and seminars.

In the first phase of the cooperative agreement, CSBR will conduct research and participate in the following tasks.

  • Review of US and international guidelines, rating systems and standards.
  • Review of Korean housing practices and sustainable guidelines.
  • Identification of desired performance outcomes.
  • Recommendation of options for best practices, processes and guidelines for application in Korea.
  • Application to demonstration housing project in Korea.
