City of Saint Paul Green Development Policy

The City of Saint Paul seeks to be one of the most livable cities in the US. CSBR, co-consultants with Ellen Brown and Associates, is assisting the city's advisory group with their effort to green private developments.

The first step in this effort was to set performance standards for private development projects that receive public monies. The advisory group suggested that the city adopt a two fold approach. The first step is to employ existing rating systems: Development projects will choose a rating system and be required to attain a predetermined rating within that system. Second, each project will be required to attain a specific level of performance within the selected building rating system in the areas of energy, water, stormwater, indoor air quality and carbon reduction.

It is anticipated that renovated buildings and privately financed buildings will be required to follow similar requirements in the future.
